Top 10 Racer To-Do’s

  1. BUTTERNUT RACE CLUB: The Butternut Race Club (BRC) is a non-profit organization run by parent volunteers (like your school PTA). We support Ski Butternut’s race program.  Every family with a child in a Ski Butternut race program is a member of BRC. You can find lots of info on this website.  Subscribe to our newsletter in the footer! The club will send weekly emails during the season about socials, volunteering, team merchandise, and more.

  2. RACE TEAM COMMUNICATION: You should receive an invitation from the mountain for TeamSnap. Please register and download the app ASAP. All communications from the mountain regarding training schedules, training meet-ups, coaches, weather delays, race day, etc. will come via the app.

  3. US SKI & SNOWBOARD ASSOCIATION (USSA) MEMBERSHIP: Membership is mandatory for every Interclub & Tri-State racer, every year. Please renew or register on My USSA before the first practice!  Athletes should register as Alpine Competitor, Eastern Region, and Butternut Ski Club. You will also pay Tri-State (TARA) dues.

  4. RACE REGISTRATION: DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!  Pre-registration for every race is required.  Mountains set their own deadlines as to when registration will close so please sign-up early for the races at AdminSkiRacing. New users will need to create a log-in. Go to Race Sign-up, Tri-State Eastern Division/Region, and select races for registration by the mountain name.

  5. TRI-STATE (TARA) WEBSITE: For parents of racers in Tri-State, please visit Tri-State Alpine Ski Racing Association for additional information.  You should become familiar with the rules of your racer’s age group as they are age-specific.

  6. EQUIPMENT: Make sure you have secured all equipment early in the season! Check the Equipment Rules at USSA prior to purchasing or leasing equipment. All Interclub & Tri-State racers need a full-coverage helmet with hard ear covers. U14 & Older athletes need helmets that are FIS approved and have the approved designation sticker on the helmet. Rules on ski length and radius begin and continue for U14 & Older.

  7. VOLUNTEER: Like many organizations, the club is only as strong as its volunteer group!  Many hands make light work - volunteering is a great way to get involved and to meet new families!  There are many ways that you can volunteer throughout the season such as race day volunteers, socials, or mentor programs.  Check out the volunteer page for opportunities.

  8. RACE DAY: Athletes (and parents) eat breakfast, show up early, and be ready on the mountain to meet your coach for inspection. Have cash on hand as some mountains require a cash deposit for bibs (usually $20-$25).

  9. PERSONAL GOALS: Racers all have different levels of ability.  Help your child set realistic personal goals at the beginning of the season and assist them in working towards those goals.  Your child’s coach can certainly assist with creating a specific goal and helping your child achieve it.

  10. HAVE FUN!  Although a race program – remember the ultimate goal is to develop better skiers/racers, foster friendships, and enjoy skiing as a family!
